SALUTE TO VALOR
MUSIC FESTIVAL
WINK TO
PERFORM NARRATIVES ON U.S.S. MISSOURI, PEARL HARBOR, JULY 4TH
2011
Several
months ago Wink was
invited to perform two narratives during the
Salute To Valor choral and musical concert in Honolulu the
4th of July: (Afghanistan) "Deck of
Cards" and the "Red" Skelton version of the Pledge of
Allegiance. This "Deck of Cards" contains the basic story.
Only the opening and closing of the
original reflecting WWII
has been changed to what might have happened under
the same circumstances during our current conflict in
Afghanistan. Wink's
original "Deck of Cards" was a Top Ten Million-Selling
record in 1959.
"Red" Skelton first performed his "definition" of the Pledge,
word-by-word, on his CBS TV show one evening in 1969. The
demand for the reading the following day was so overwhelming
that Columbia Records was forced to release it as a single.
Within days it had sold over a million records. This in a day
when such a thing was almost unheard of.
Wink has performed both of these before. But always
using a pre-recorded music track. Never LIVE, with a 125
voice choir and 60 piece concert orchestra.
And certainly not on the Deck of the Battleship Missouri,
where the Peace Treaty was signed officially ending WWII.
This private concert is limited to the active military
personnel serving on Ford Island, select veterans and Pearl
Harbor Attack survivors, as well as other members of the
U.S. Armed Forces given access by special invitation.
This concert
and fireworks display celebrates
the 235th Anniversary of our nation's birth.
Wink says, "I feel blessed to have been invited to emcee and
participate".
